  • Pickering emulsion is widely used in biomedical science, food and cosmetic industries because of its good aggregation stability, variety, ease of handling, low cost, low toxicity and biocompatibility etc. In recent years, more attention has been drawn to the use of Pickering emulsion in petroleum industry. This paper analyzed the stability mechanisms of Pickering emulsion and its advantages over conventional emulsions, investigated several factors influencing the stability of Pickering emulsion and the methods of adjusting and controlling these factors, and finally, summarized the application of Pickering emulsion in drilling and oil and gas flooding both in China and abroad. The future of the development of Pickering emulsion in petroleum industry was also discussed.
